Long Goodbye

It’s not how long you know someone,

How much in common you share;

No marathon, just a hit and run,

Yet the impact couldn’t be more clear.

The most profound advice you gave:

“Hitch your wagons to a star”

Brought me through many a dark day;

Your impact, guiding me thus far.

Though the time I knew you was short,

Shorter than anyone I’ve ever known;

You left an imprint on my heart,

With each new day it continues to grow.

This physical existence, you have left,

Leaving remnants of your soul;

Pieces of you are alive to me;

Always, until it’s my time to go.
