What do you enjoy most about writing?
Writing has been one of the most important ways through which I process new information, my thoughts, ideas, and perspectives about various topics and issues. Through writing, solutions usually come to me much quicker than if I were only thinking about them. As I put my thoughts to paper or notes, other ideas come to me during that process and I am able to solve problems more easily.
As a child, I wrote everywhere and in anything. I often got into trouble for writing on walls and in others’ books at home. I wrote about everything and that also didn’t sit well with some as I would write my observations about different situations I would see happening around me. Some of these were sensitive, so I can now understand why one of my cousins was upset about me writing about her sister’s ‘demon possession’. I digress.
I was always a naturally good writer, according to my teachers—and if I do say so myself. It came absolutely easily to me. I loved it so much that I wanted to be a writer—a journalist to be exact. Circumstances derailed my goal and I studied something else. However, I never stopped writing. It helped me a lot during my studies, though, so not pursuing writing was not wasted. Still, to this day, if you ask me what I love doing, I will always say ‘write’, or even research, but that too is writing. So, I love writing.
In summary, the thing I enjoy the most about writing is how it allows me to explore my feelings and process them, explore a plethora of ideas, and gain new perspectives.
