Change can be terrifying
Disrupting everything held dear
Even bad habits that prove tiring
We hold them tight out of fear
What if I hate this new thing?
What’s the new replacing the old?
What will this change really bring?
Old is warm, familiar; new is cold
But what makes change so scary?
Change signals there’s an end
Much like a death in the family
We imagine they’re here, even if pretend
But change also signals new life
New frontiers to explore
The caterpillar transforms into a butterfly
As one life ends, another grows
Change is harder than routine
Yet all routines begin with change
A small step; letting the old go
‘Take small steps’, saith the sage
