Corporate

Elated to get a foot in, excited to earn
Promises to achieve, to grow and to learn
The culture is vibrant, at least at first glance
This is your moment, you’ve been given a chance

Smiles all around, many welcoming intros
Tips here and there about the cons and the pros
“We’re all family here, this is now your home”
Are words you question when smiles turn to stone

Gossip swirls at the speed of lightning
And the gossipmongers all seem to be thriving
Brown-nosing the bosses and shirking their duties
Passing off their work to oft willing patsies

Corporate, not all it’s cracked up to be
“Work hard”, they say, “that is the key”
To climbing the ladder, good work rewarded
But hard work alone could get you rejected

Cooperate? Where? Whatever is that?
Not you trusting your peers? That is a trap!
Soon they’ll say, “you’re doing too much”
Understand where you are, and act as such

A minefield veiled as an alluring meadow
Very soon you’ll be jumping at your own shadow
That’s if machiavellian ways aren’t your thing
Otherwise you’re good, you’ll fit right in

But if the dark triad are not your forté
Yet you find yourself in corporate, hold sway
Watch your back though, and navigate well
Oh! The stories you will live to tell

Don’t stay too long though, if it crushes your soul
Or you’ll end up just going with the flow
The foul, toxic stench, no longer a bother
You’re now one of them, backstabbing another
